Questions & Answers

What is Tallow?

Tallow is a pure, rendered form of animal fat (usually from grass-fed cattle). It’s rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K — nutrients that closely mimic our skin’s natural oils, making it deeply nourishing and easily absorbed.

Why use tallow on your skin?

Unlike synthetic creams or seed oils, tallow’s fatty acid profile is biologically compatible with human skin. It helps restore the skin barrier, lock in moisture, and soothe dryness, eczema, or irritation, naturally.

Is your tallow ethically sourced?

Yes. Our tallow comes from grass-fed, pasture-raised South African cattle, sourced as a byproduct of the local regenerative farming industry. No animals are harmed for skincare. At "we are naked", we believe in full-circle sustainability.

Does it smell like beef?

No. The rendering process removes the natural scent of tallow, and we blend it with pure essential oils for a light, clean, subtle aroma. Unscented options are also available for sensitive skin.

Is tallow suitable for all skin types?

Yes. Tallow is non-comedogenic (it won’t clog pores) and adapts to your skin’s needs — balancing oily skin, deeply hydrating dry skin, and calming irritation in sensitive skin.

Is tallow skincare safe for babies or sensitive skin?

Yes. Pure tallow (especially unscented) is gentle and ideal for babies, eczema-prone skin, and anyone sensitive to synthetic ingredients.

How should I store my tallow products?

Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Because tallow is a stable fat, it naturally resists oxidation and has a long shelf life (around 12–18 months).

Do your products contain preservatives or synthetic ingredients?

No. Our range is free from parabens, silicones, synthetic fragrances, and preservatives. We use simple, whole ingredients that your skin recognises and loves.

What’s the texture like?

Tallow melts on contact with your skin. It starts as a rich balm and absorbs quickly, leaving your skin soft, hydrated, and non-greasy.

Is tallow vegan?

No, tallow is an animal-based ingredient.

Do you test on animals?

Never. Our products are cruelty-free. We only test on ourselves and willing humans.

What makes tallow better than seed oils?

Seed oils oxidise easily and can disrupt the skin barrier. Tallow’s stable, saturated fat structure resists oxidation and mirrors the composition of healthy human sebum, making it highly compatible and effective.
